Our anniversary was last Wednesday. On Thursday Skyland Resort, Shenandoah National Park, opened for the season, so, we went up for two nights to celebrate our anniversary. Thursday was sunny and in the seventies. We had a nice hike on Milam trail and ate dinner in the dining room. It was starting to drizzle and rain a little at sundown. I setup the tripod on the balcony and took a few shots of Luray after dark. The next morning I looked out and all I saw was gray. The cloud was covering the mountain. Opening the curtains I saw snow on the balcony and ground.
It was raining down in the valley and snowing on top of the mountain. We had always wanted to be in the park when there was snow. Usually they close the park and don’t open until most of the snow has melted. I think we only had about four inches but it covered the trees and was absolutely beautiful. The park closed the roads in and out so we just wandered around Skyland. About lunch time they opened the roads. I took film and digital pictures. The first pictures are gray in the background because of the cloud and later the cloud lifted so the back ground is not gray but it was still overcast.
On Saturday the sun was out and the snow was melting but I got a few pictures on the way out. The film still needs to be developed.
We had a great time. More pictures here. rdungan.smugmug.com/Day-Trippi…
